A Downingtown native and graduate of Philadelphia's Restaurant School at Walnut College, Chef Alex brings 22 years of experience to the table. Alex's career started early in catering before entering the restaurant world. His 12 years of work as an Executive Chef in Chester County allowed him to put his classical training to the test. His culinary works ranged from Brewpubs and cooking with local brews, Italian, locally sourced farm-to-table dishes, and Texas style BBQ. He enjoyed two years working as a culinary instructor, teaching the basics from knife skills to creating multi course meals. In 2019, Chef Alex decided to take the leap and officially open Alexander Catering Company and Shimpy's BBQ.
Chef Alex Shimpeno is excited to provide an experience that will have your mouth watering and your taste buds screaming for more. Working in brewpubs for the past 12 years Chef Alex has fallen in love with providing upscale homestyle cooking to the masses and prides himself on mixing smoke and flame to compliment the flavors of meat and vegetables alike! Either way, whether its a 5 course plated dinner your after or a full pan of delicious tenders ribs, Chef Alex has you covered!
Any Chef is only as good as the people that have his back and let me tell you, Chef Alex has them in spades! Shimpy's BBQ runs because of family and thrives because of Friends! We have the best people, that give the most and, just like Chef Alex, will ensure your event is pure success!
You'll often find Mrs. Shimpy (Sarah) and the rest of the Shimpeno family working right along side of Chef Alex.
Chef Alex is of the mind that if you can dream it up, you can make it happen. Using many pits over the years they all seemed to do certain things to achieve the results but there were always things that could be tweaked and made better or more efficient. The only way to ensure he could achieve that level of customization was to make one himself. With a trip to Harbor Freight and the purchase of a Mig welder Chef Alex taught himself how to weld. Along with other teachers along the way ended up creating this monstrosity and attaching it to a trailer. Capable of smoking 15 briskets in one shot, let us roll up to your next party or neighbor shindig and rock these succulent smokey meats out of this bad boi. Contact us for details.
